Former Arsenal and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has recently been linked with a stunning move to Sheffield Wednesday.
This comes as a major surprise, but the Championship club believed that they have everything needed to attract a top player likeAdebayor. The Togo international is currently available on a free transfer after having decided to mutually terminate his contract with Tottenham. He continues to receive his wages and will continue to do so until he finds a new club. Known for his goalscoring abilities and also the contribution he gives to help the team, Wednesday may have found a right transfer target.
However, Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal says that there is no truth in the rumours that the club are going to sign Adebayor. If the Championship outfit to bring in the 31-year-old, it will represent a major gamble since he has had a chequered history in the last five years. The stable time forAdebayor was when he had just joined Arsenal in 2006.
Towards the end of the decade,Adebayor started providing huge problems for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. Since then, he has played for teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Tottenham. More importantly, he has not played any football for the last 12 months and his fitness levels will be off the charts.
“It’s nothing more than a rumour.I won’t comment on rumours today or tomorrow. I have never heard about the possibility of Adebayor coming here. He is a fantastic player but we have never talked about this,” said the Sheffield Wednesday manager. The club are just one place below the play-off places. If they continue on this form, the club could certainly dream about finishing in the top six or even above. The team finished mid-table last season and this will represent a major improvement.
